An 18-year-old girl from Karachi’s Surjani Town area was allegedly killed after being subjected to repeated physical abuse by her husband, according to details provided by her family.

The victim, known as Misbah, was reportedly married to Shehryar, who her family claims began demanding dowry shortly after the marriage.

According to the victim’s mother the abuse started shortly after their wedding and went on several months. The mother alleged that her daughter faced severe violence after the family was unable to meet the accused’s demand for Rs.300,000 and additional dowry items. She further alleged that Misbah had repeatedly lamented about the mistreatment and had requested the family to end the relationship.

The family further claim that Shehryar had presented himself as a police officer before the marriage by showing pictures of himself in uniform.

According to local reports, Misbah died from the injuries allegedly inflicted during the period of abuse.

Police have registered a case at Surjani Town Police Station; however, the accused has not been arrested. The victim’s family called for an immediate arrest of Shehryar and ordered strict legal action against those responsible.

An investigation into the incident has been launched by the authorities and efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect.
