The call for dialogue is made as tensions rise and threaten the stability of the region, and the world is watching every move in the Middle East closely.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar met in Shanghai and expressed deep concern at the escalating conflict. Both leaders said further retaliation would only heighten the humanitarian and economic toll of the crisis. They called on Washington and Tehran to stick to ceasefire commitments and resume diplomatic talks before the situation worsens.

The new appeal comes amid reports of widespread military exchanges between the U.S. and Iran, stoking fears the conflict could spill beyond the region. Markets around the world have already started to react with investors watching the price of oil and international shipping routes that could be affected should hostilities continue.

China has always stood for diplomatic solutions, and Pakistan has also raised similar concerns about regional peace and stability. In a joint statement they cite growing international pressure on both sides to opt for negotiation rather than confrontation.

It is not clear if these calls for restraint will impact the decision-makers in Washington or Tehran. One thing is clear, however: the stakes are much wider than the countries directly involved.
