For celebrities, social media is a place to share their personal lives, and every major event becomes a national talking point. The latest example is social media influencer and psychologist Dr Nabiha Ali Khan who has officially initiated khula proceedings against her husband, Haris Khokhar, bringing their widely discussed marital dispute into a new legal phase.

The decision was announced by Dr Nabiha in a video on her official Facebook account where she was seen signing the legal documents. The video quickly went viral, drawing thousands of reactions and reigniting public discussion about the couple's relationship.

In the video, Dr Nabiha said she hoped no woman would have to face the circumstances she faced after marriage. She said she had been treated in a humiliating and disrespectful way and no wife should be treated like that. Her comments have divided social media, with some users voicing support and others calling for people to hear both sides before rushing to judgement.

The development comes months after the couple’s marriage problems were first reported. They got engaged and married last year and attracted a lot of attention with many of their followers celebrating the union. But speculation about disagreements started to circulate only a few months later and became a frequent topic across Pakistani social media platforms eventually.

Earlier this year, during a television interview, Dr Nabiha acknowledged that her marriage was going through serious difficulties.  She also alleged that her husband’s behaviour changed after marriage due to family influence and questioned why the marriage had taken place if another proposal had already been preferred.

 Haris Khokhar has not made any public statement so far on the khula proceedings or the allegations levelled against him. So, the claims are at the moment still Dr Nabiha’s account of what happened.

The matter has now moved from social media speculation into the courts as legal proceedings are now underway. More will likely follow if either side issues an official statement, but until then, the case remains a private legal matter that nevertheless continues to be of much public interest
