PTI Supporters Launch Online Campaign Demanding Imran Khan's Release: #FreeImranKhanBreaking

July 07, 2026

As political tensions continue to dominate Pakistan's landscape, a fresh wave of digital activism has brought former Prime Minister Imran Khan back into the spotlight. Thousands of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters flooded X (formerly Twitter) on July 6, demanding Khan's release through coordinated hashtags, videos, and messages that quickly gained widespread attention.

Emotional video edits, speeches and messages highlighting Khan's political journey were part of the campaign and asked supporters to continue raising their voices online. The PTI leadership and workers said the move was a peaceful digital protest to keep the public attention on the legal and political plight of their leader.

Imran Khan has remained in custody since August 2023 and is embroiled in a number of other legal cases including corruption and incitement to violence. The PTI has always claimed that the cases were politically motivated, saying the former prime minister was being targeted due to his rising popularity among the public. Pakistani authorities, however, say the judiciary is acting in accordance with the law and dismiss allegations of political interference.

The online campaign also revived debate about Khan’s alleged health issues and the conditions of his detention, with his supporters calling for better medical treatment and a fair trial. The issue continues to be a subject of intense political debate across the country, a reflection of Pakistan’s deeply divided political landscape.

The hashtag campaign attracted much attention on social media but there has been no official suggestion of any immediate change to Khan’s legal status. With legal processes stretched out, PTI supporters seem determined to keep the issue alive through digital activism, keeping the call for Imran Khan’s release on the top of the agenda of Pakistan’s political discourse.
