Nine police officers have been killed in one of Balochistan's deadliest attacks in Ziarat, triggering a major security operation and sparking public protests demanding justice and stronger protection. As security forces launched a major counter-operation, public frustration over rising violence continued to grow.
The attack was carried out on Tuesday in the Kach Mangi Phase III area where terrorists affiliated with Fitna al-Khawarij targeted police personnel on duty. Officials said the attack killed nine police officers, including two Station House Officers (SHOs) and the head of an Anti-Terrorist Force (ATF) unit. Five abducted civilians later escaped, but several residents were reportedly abducted during the attack.
In response, security forces, police and other law enforcement agencies launched a combined clearance operation that killed 15 terrorists after hours of heavy gunfire. Authorities said intelligence-based operations would continue across the region to dismantle terrorist networks and their facilitators.
Even after the operation, public frustration has continued to grow. The residents of Ziarat have blocked the national highway at Ziarat Cross to protest for better protection and accountability. Meanwhile, protests also continued outside BA Mall on Airport Road where demonstrators demanded justice, better security measures and immediate arrest of those responsible for recent violent acts. The sit-in caused traffic disruption as protesters vowed to continue their protest until concrete action is taken.
While authorities insist they are intensifying operations against terrorist networks, the protests in Ziarat and Quetta reflect growing public demands for lasting security rather than temporary responses. For many residents, restoring peace now depends on whether the government's promises are followed by visible action.
