Pakistan Railways (PR) has accelerated its efforts to digitise and integrate its 10 Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) bridges into a centralised digital monitoring platform under the Railway Advanced Infrastructure Network (RAIN) Project by September 15 this year.

According to a document available with Wealth Pakistan, the development is being undertaken in response to a recommendation by the Senate Standing Committee on Railways that the Ministry of Railways (MoR) brief it on the development and implementation status of the project.

The project envisages digitisation and integration of 10 Weigh-in-Motion bridges across Pakistan with PROMISE (Pakistan Railway Operational and Management Integrated Services Ecosystem) platform.

The integrated system is designed to facilitate real-time monitoring, reporting, and data-driven operational decision-making, strengthening digital oversight of railway operations.

Significantly, one weigh-in-motion bridge has been successfully digitised and integrated with the PROMISE dashboard, and its operational data is being received and displayed successfully in real time. This milestone has validated the system architecture and established the digital framework for the remaining installations.

Meanwhile, the digitisation and integration of the remaining nine WIM bridges is currently in progress. The activity is expected to be completed by September 15, 2026.

Following completion, all designated WIM bridges will be integrated with the PROMISE platform, enabling Pakistan Railways to undertake centralised monitoring and analytics of data generated by the facilities.

The Ministry of Railways will submit a comprehensive briefing to the committee within three months, covering the project's development and implementation status, progress achieved so far, and the roadmap for completing the remaining work.
