A statue of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution of India, was vandalized allegedly by Hindutva goons at Mirzapur in India’s BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh state, triggering protests. Additional Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Singh said the incident took place last night in a local park that had a statue each of Gautam Buddha, the Ashoka Pillar, and Dr B R Ambedkar.  "Unidentified individuals broke the statue of Dr  Ambedkar.

As the news spread, locals gathered near the park in protest," the officer said. It is worth mentioning here that  Hindu nationalist Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party are hostile towards Dr. B.R. Ambedkar for being a Dalit belonging to the Mahar caste in Maharashtra and critical of Hindutva and its proponents, viewing them as a threat to India's unity and democracy. He saw Hindutva as incompatible with democracy and equality.
