Delhi police detain two journalists during protest against recruitment scamBreaking

August 26, 2025

Delhi Police detained two journalists of The Lallantop, reporter Rajat Pandey and cameraperson Rashid Ali Kazmi, while they were covering a protest at Ramleela Maidan against irregularities in Staff Selection Commission (SSC) recruitment.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the duo was stopped from filming, taken into custody with protesting students, and had their press cards, phones, and camera seized. Though police later called the episode a “misunderstanding,” the journalists rejected the claim, saying they had repeatedly identified themselves.

Media bodies and rights groups have condemned the incident, warning that intimidation of journalists at protests poses a serious threat to press freedom in India.
