Demolition drive leaves 500 Muslims homeless in Assam’s AzaraBreaking

March 16, 2026

The demolition drive in Assam’s Azara district administration has left around 500 Muslim families homeless, targeting their homes on approximately 737 bighas of land in a designated tribal belt. According to Kashmir Media Service, authorities claim only non-tribals settled before the declaration can stay, but affected families say they’ve lived there for nearly two decades, receiving government benefits after being displaced by floods and erosion. The families are now seeking justice, alleging the drive is targeting minorities.
