A petty officer in the Indian Navy has murdered a 31-year-old woman, dismembering her body, and attempting to destroy evidence in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, highlighting concerns about mental health and relationships among Indian armed forces personnel. Chintada Ravindra, a petty officer in the Navy, had been in a toxic relationship with Mounika, which turned fatal.
Ravindra, according to police, had been in contact with Mounika since 2021, meeting her through a dating app. The relationship continued even after his marriage in 2024, leading to escalating differences. On the fateful day, a heated argument broke out, and Ravindra allegedly smothered Mounika to death.
This incident highlights the pressure and stress faced by armed forces personnel, which can sometimes lead to frustration and violent behavior. Experts say that the lack of emotional support and counseling can exacerbate such situations.
