April 24, 2026

Jailed Sikh leader Amritpal Singh has been re-booked and re-arrested from Dibrugarh Jail in Assam in connection with another false case, following the expiry of his detention under the draconian National Security Act (NSA).According to Kashmir Media Service, after the expiration of his NSA detention period, Indian authorities booked Amritpal Singh in the Ajnala police station violence case.

The move is seen as an attempt to prolong his detention. He was produced before the Ajnala Sub-Divisional Court via video conferencing from Dibrugarh Jail after the fresh arrest. Police requested a 15-day remand for further investigation. However, after hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted only a two-day police custody. During this period, Amritpal Singh will remain under detention at a police facility in Dibrugarh.

Amritpal Singh has been lodged in Dibrugarh Central Jail since April 23, 2023, after being detained under the NSA.Several of his associates including Papalpreet Singh, Daljeet Singh Kalsi, Kulwant Singh, Varinder Johal, Gurmeet Singh Bhukhanwala, his uncle Harjit Singh, Basant Singh, Gurinder Singh Aujla, and Bhagwant Singh were also detained under the NSA. They were later transferred to Punjab last year and are currently facing trial in the Ajnala court.
