A massive avalanche swept through the Sarbal area in Sonamarg, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, late Tuesday night, with a chilling video capturing the moment of impact.According to Kashmir Media Service, the authoriteis have issued an avalanche warning in 11 districts, including a high-danger warning for areas above 2,000 metres in Ganderbal district.
The incident occurred at 10:12 pm, with massive volumes of snow cascading down towards hotels and residential buildings. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or fatalities.Heavy snowfall across Kashmir has caused major travel disruptions, with the Jammu-Srinagar highway closed and all flights at Srinagar airport cancelled, leaving several tourists stranded.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) rescued 40 Indian Army personnel, stranded at the Chattergala Pass along the Bhaderwah-Chamba Road in Doda district. The authorities’ indifference to disaster warnings is appalling. The incident highlights the need for more effective disaster management measures in the territory.
