The Association for Protection of Civil Rights has documented 34 cases of violence against Muslims in West Bengal between May 4 and May 7, 2026, following the BJP’s electoral victory.According to Kashmir Media Service, the APCR report cites two fatalities, including a Muslim man killed while protecting a mosque in Gosanimari, Cooch Behar. Cooch Behar and North 24 Parganas reported seven incidents each, while South 24 Parganas and Kolkata saw five each.At least 54 properties were attacked, affecting around 50 Muslims.
Mosques were assaulted, Muslim-owned hotels in Barasat demolished, homes vandalised in Nandina and Abutra villages, and meat shops and cattle markets targeted. The report also noted “bulldozer processions” and attempts to rename Muslim-associated roads. APCR said the findings, compiled through local sources, point to a broader climate of hostility rather than isolated incidents. No official response from state authorities or the BJP had been issued at the time of publication.
