No plans to participate in second round of talks with US: Iran's Foreign MinistryBreaking

April 20, 2026

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei said on Monday there are currently no plans to participate in a second round of talks with the United States.Speaking at a press conference in Tehran, Baghaei stated that Iran cannot trust the US and will continue to safeguard its national interests. He added that there is no intention, at this stage, to join further negotiations.

He accused Washington of failing to show seriousness in advancing diplomacy, alleging that the US had taken aggressive actions and violated the ceasefire. “We have full confidence in our capabilities and do not trust the United States,” he said, adding that the US has not learned from past experiences and that talks are not possible under current conditions. Baghaei also noted that discussions had already taken place on a 10-point proposal presented in Pakistan.

He said the Strait of Hormuz was completely secure before US and Israeli attacks, and accused the US of imposing a naval blockade and targeting an Iranian vessel. He further alleged that the US had violated both the negotiation process and the ceasefire twice, describing the attack on an Iranian ship as a breach of international law. He claimed US strikes targeted civilians and damaged infrastructure in Iran.

According to Baghaei, Iran had informed Pakistan about ceasefire violations from the outset, adding that the US naval blockade clearly contravenes the agreement. He warned that without a change in US policies, outcomes are unlikely to improve. He also accused the US of making baseless allegations against Iran and said Washington continues to engage in blame rather than playing a constructive role, adding that Iran has never expected the US to be truthful.
