Protests against fatal assault on Kashmiri youth continue in RambanBreaking

April 15, 2026

In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, widespread protests continued across Ramban district and along the Jammu Srinagar highway for the third consecutive day today against the fatal assualt on Kashmiri Muslim youth by cow vigilantes in the district.

According to Kashmir Media Service, 25-year-old Tanveer Ahmad Chopan, a resident of Mundkhal in Pogal area, was travelling from Jammu to his native village with a milch cow and calves when he was chased and brutally assaulted by members of so-called “cow protection” groups in the Kamarkote area.

The incident has triggered widespread anger, with protests erupting across Ramban district and along the Jammu–Srinagar highway. The victim’s family and local residents staged a blockade of the highway for several hours, demanding justice and swift action against the attackers.

The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns over mob violence targeting Muslims under the pretext of “cow protection” in India, particularly in BJP-ruled regions. Observers say the latest episode reflects a disturbing pattern of increased communal vigilantism, where minorities are subjected to violence with impunity, often leading to loss of life and heightened tensions.
