In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a young Kashmiri Muslim was brutally assaulted to death by goons of a Hindutva group in Ramban district, triggering widespread protests and a complete shutdown in the area.According to Kashmir Media Service, 25-year-old Tanveer Ahmad Chopan was travelling along with his cattle from Jammu to his native village Mundkhal in Pogal, Ramban district, when he was intercepted in the Kamarkote area by goons affiliated with Hindutva outfits, including BJP, RSS and Bajrang Dal.

The attackers targeted the Muslim youth under the pretext of so-called “Gau Raksha” (cow vigilantes) and subjected him to a fatal assault. Reports said that while trying to flee from the attackers, Tanveer went missing near Makarkote in the Ramsoo area along the Jammu–Srinagar highway. His body was later recovered from Nallah Bushlari near the same location, indicating that he had been murdered and dumped there by the assailants. The killing sparked strong outrage among locals, who took to the streets in protest against the incident.

A complete shutdown was observed across Ramban district, while authorities suspended internet services in a bid to curb the spread of protests to other areas. The incident has intensified concerns over the growing trend of violence against Muslims in India in the name of cow vigilantes, particularly since the BJP assumed power in 2014. In IIOJK, the killing is being viewed as part of a disturbing pattern fueled by hate rhetoric and communal targeting by elements associated with BJP, RSS, Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena and VHP in the Jammu region.
