A 22-year-old Dalit youth, Suraj Gautam, was brutally stabbed to death by an upper-caste Brahmin family in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh state. The incident occurred during Holi celebrations in Begariya village, Lucknow's Dubagga area. Suraj had greeted his Brahmin neighbour Mohit Tiwari with "Happy Holi," which reportedly triggered an argument due to caste differences.

Tiwari's sister Shivani and mother Ranjana joined in, with Shivani stabbing Suraj multiple times. He succumbed to his injuries at a trauma centre. A viral video shows Suraj's grieving mother questioning the brutality and demanding justice. The incident has angered the Dalit community in India, especially in Uttar Pradesh, with allegations that police mishandled evidence and favoured the accused.
