The Balochistan Provincial Assembly's Standing Committee on Fisheries reviewed the proposed Balochistan Fisheries and Aquaculture Bill 2026 at a meeting in Gwadar.
The proposed legislation focuses on protecting fishermen's rights, conserving marine resources, promoting aquaculture and strengthening regulation of the fisheries sector, Gwadar Pro reported on Sunday.
Participants raised concerns over illegal trawling and prohibited fishing nets and called for stronger enforcement. They also discussed a science-based fishing-season closure policy linked to fish breeding periods.
The meeting considered proposals to strengthen fisheries research, improve data collection and enhance the role of the Fisheries Council.
Committee Chairman Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman Baloch said feedback from fishermen and other stakeholders would be considered before the bill is finalized and submitted for approval through the required legal procedures.
The meeting was the Standing Committee on Fisheries' first held outside Quetta.
