China-funded N-5 highway rehabilitation project moves forwardBreaking

September 01, 2025

The National Highway Authority (NHA) has released the technical evaluation report for the China-funded N-5 sectional rehabilitation project. According to the report, four Chinese firms—China Road & Bridge Corporation, China Bureau Group Co. Ltd., China State Engineering Corporation Ltd., and China Yunnan Sunny Road & Bridge Co. Ltd.—have qualified with top technical scores and will move forward in the bidding process, Gwadar Pro reported on Monday.

The rehabilitation project, valued at approximately 638 million yuan (about $88 million), is financed through a Chinese government grant. It will be executed on an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) turnkey basis. The project's scope includes detailed engineering design, pavement rehabilitation, maintenance for bridges and culverts, drainage works, and safety enhancements along the N-5 highway between Hala and Moro, one of Pakistan’s busiest transport arteries.

Officials say the project will ease traffic flow, improve road safety, and support trade and economic activity, as the N-5 connects the port city of Karachi with northern Pakistan and is a critical route for freight transport. The initiative is part of China’s continued commitment to infrastructure development in Pakistan, complementing the broader strategic partnership between the two nations.
