China-Pakistan collaboration in Ecology showcased at Industry conferenceBreaking

Innovative approaches to restoring degraded grasslands, highlighting the deepening scientific cooperation between China and Pakistan, were showcased at the 24th China Conference on Ecology. The event, organized by the Ecological Society of China from October 24 to 26, brought together more than 2,200 experts to advance global dialogue on ecological protection, restoration, and sustainable development, Gwadar Pro reported.

Dr. Adnan Arshad, a Pakistani research fellow at Lanzhou University, China, presented a strategy to tackle grassland degradation by integrating modern technology with ecological principles. His research underscores the vital link between climate resilience and long-term food security. “China’s achievements in combating desertification and promoting sustainable grassland management offer invaluable insights for Pakistan,” Dr. Arshad said.

“The determination and progress China has demonstrated in ecological protection represent a major contribution to global environmental efforts.” He pointed to tangible outcomes of China-Pakistan collaboration, such as the China-Pakistan Joint Laboratory for Eco-agriculture and Biomass Energy Technology R&D, a partnership between Lanzhou University and Pakistani institutions.

A “Green Town” initiative has also been launched in Pakistan through collaboration between scientific teams from Gansu, China and Pakistani research counterparts. It is designed to recycle agricultural and livestock waste, thereby reducing environmental pollution.

Dr. Arshad emphasized that Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) have opened pathways for scaling such cooperation. “CPEC serves as an ideal platform for the transfer of knowledge and adaptable technologies, including small-scale agricultural machinery that can help local farmers adopt sustainable practices,” he noted.

Building on these partnerships, Dr. Arshad is also set to launch a grassland rehabilitation project in Pakistan that will incorporate climate-smart practices refined through Sino-Pakistan research. “This initiative reflects a shared commitment to transforming scientific collaboration into on-the-ground solutions, fostering both ecological sustainability and food security in the region,” he concluded.
