Karakoram International University (KIU) has awarded scholarship cheques to 95 PhD, MS and BS students under the China-Pakistan Friendship Merit-cum-Need Based Scholarship programme, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to more than 500 since 2022, according to a Gwadar Pro tally. KIU’s Public Relations Office said senior university management, faculty members and scholarship recipients attended the ceremony.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Attaullah Shah said the university was committed to helping students continue their studies without financial hurdles. He urged recipients to stay focused on academics and use the funds strictly for educational expenses. Speaking to Gwadar Pro, Shah said the scholarships reflected the goodwill of the Chinese government and the support of the Chinese ambassador.
He added that exchange programmes with Chinese universities under the Belt and Road Initiative would further strengthen bilateral ties and mutual understanding. He also commended KIU’s Financial Aid Office for managing the China-funded programme, which is supported by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Pakistan.
