Dr. Wajid achieves milestone from Ocean University of ChinaBreaking

Dr. Wajid Ali from Pasni, Balochistan’s shined himself in his higher study, achieving milestone having a Ph.D. in Fish Genetics from the prestigious Ocean University of China. A report carried by Gwadar Pro on Friday stated, "On a quiet morning in Pasni, Balochistan, a young Wajid Ali would stand by the sea, captivated by the fish beneath the waves and the mysteries of the deep. That early curiosity would eventually take him thousands of miles away, earning him a Ph.D. in Fish Genetics from the prestigious Ocean University of China."

“Growing up in Pasni, I always wondered how we could better understand and protect our marine resources. That curiosity became the compass for my academic journey,” Dr. Wajid recalls. His academic pursuit led him first to Quetta, where he completed a Master’s degree in Zoology, followed by an M.Phil. in Marine Biology from Lasbela University. Even then, his research focused on the diverse fish species along Balochistan’s coast, laying the foundation for advanced studies in marine science.

In 2021, Dr. Wajid’s dedication earned him the China Scholarship Council (CSC) Award, granting him admission to the Ocean University of China in Qingdao. There, he specialized in molecular genetics and immunology of aquatic organisms, focusing on antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) from the golden pompano. His research evaluated their effectiveness against multiple bacterial strains, providing valuable insights for disease management and sustainable aquaculture.

“My time in China was both challenging and rewarding,” he told Gwadar Pro. “I worked alongside brilliant researchers and learned advanced techniques that I hope to bring back to Pakistan. It’s not just about research; it’s about making a real impact on our fisheries and coastal communities.” Despite the demands of his doctoral work, Dr. Wajid published multiple articles in top-tier, Q1 scientific journals, earning recognition for both the depth and relevance of his research. He completed his Ph.D.

In September-October 2025. “I want to share the knowledge and skills I gained in China,” he explains. “My dream is to help improve aquaculture practices, promote sustainable seafood production, and support communities along our coasts. This is my way of honoring Pasni and the place that inspired me.” Dr. Wajid Ali’s journey is more than a story of personal achievement; it is a beacon of inspiration for students across Pakistan, especially those from remote regions.

It demonstrates that curiosity, dedication, and perseverance can transform dreams into global accomplishments. “Dr. Wajid Ali’s remarkable achievement is a source of pride for all of Pasni and Balochistan. His dedication and success in completing a Ph.D. in China show that talent from our town can shine on the international stage. Young people here can look up to him as an inspiring example of what hard work and perseverance can achieve,” reported a local media platform Pasni Updates.
