November 07, 2025

Gwadar has added a new recreational landmark with the inauguration of a public park in the Sangar Phase-I Housing Scheme, further enhancing the port city’s tourism appeal and civic infrastructure. The park was formally inaugurated on Friday by Major General Habib Nawaz, General Officer Commanding (GOC), and Deputy Commissioner Hamood-ur-Rehman, according to Gwadar Pro.

During the event, the GOC and DC toured various sections of the new park, inspecting its landscaping and infrastructure. They lauded the project team for delivering a modern public facility that complements Gwadar’s emerging image as a clean and green coastal city. Adding a touch of local culture, the ceremony concluded with a refreshment gathering and a Balochi music program, celebrating the city’s traditions and community spirit.

According to an official statement from the Deputy Commissioner Gwadar Office, the new park is envisioned to serve both residents and visitors as a vibrant leisure hub, reflecting Gwadar’s ongoing urban transformation and its growing role as a tourism destination in Balochistan.

Senior civil-military officials attended the ceremony, including Director General Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) Moin-ur-Rehman, SSP Zia ul Haq Mandokhail, Additional Deputy Commissioner General Dr. Abdul Shakoor, Assistant Commissioner Saeed Kaleem Zafar, Chief Engineer GDA Haji Sayed Muhammad, and Project Manager Nazeer Ahmed Baloch.

Launched in 1992, the Sangar Housing Project (SHP) stands as one of Gwadar’s flagship urban developments, sponsored by the Government of Balochistan and managed under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner Gwadar. The self-financed project, developed with consultancy support from Consultants Group, was envisioned to utilize Gwadar’s strategic location, scenic beauty, and economic promise.

Perched on the picturesque Koh-e-Batil Peninsula, about 500 feet above sea level, SHP was Gwadar’s first planned residential and commercial scheme, offering panoramic views of the Arabian Sea. According to Project Director Hamood ur Rehman, key infrastructure including dual-carriage roads, electrical systems, sewage networks, and water pipelines, has already been completed in four of the five planned phases.

“The Sangar Housing Project stands for state-of-the-art planning, transparent and merit-based computerization of records, and sustainable development from recognized firms,” Mr. Rehman stated on the project’s official website.
