Karakoram International University (KIU), Pakistan reached an understanding with the China-Pakistan Border Trade Zone (CPBTZ) to expand cooperation in youth- and research-focused fields including e-sports, skiing, medicinal plant research, and student internships.

The agreement was announced after a meeting between Shah and China-Pakistan Border Trade Zone Chairman Chen Haiyou on September 23, according to the university’s Public Relations Office.

Chen described the partnership as “a new chapter of cooperation” centered on youth-oriented sectors such as e-sports and skiing, which he said could bridge cultural gaps and stimulate cross-border economic activity along the Karakoram Corridor.

KIU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Attaullah Shah endorsed the vision, saying KIU is “committed to preparing students for a digital and sustainable economy,” and stressed that the collaboration would directly benefit communities in Gilgit-Baltistan. Both sides indicated that the initiatives would be formalized in the near future.
