October 29, 2025

The inaugural session of the Pakistan–China Parliamentary Friendship Group was held at Parliament House, with Senator Sherry Rehman, convenor of the group, welcoming Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong and members of his delegation, according to Gwadar Pro.

Rehman reaffirmed Pakistan’s “all-weather, ironclad partnership” with China, describing it as a relationship that “has stood the test of time and continues to deepen through every challenge and opportunity.” The group was established to strengthen inter-parliamentary exchanges, enhance understanding between lawmakers, and promote dialogue on political, economic and social co-operation.

A large number of senators attended the session, which discussed collaboration under the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), poverty alleviation, agricultural innovation, climate resilience and sustainable growth. Sherry Rehman said Pakistan could learn from China’s success in lifting more than 800 million people out of poverty to strengthen its rural economy, boost food security and develop climate-smart agriculture.

She added that CPEC remains the cornerstone of Pakistan–China co-operation, transforming connectivity and investment, and expressed optimism for its next phase focused on green energy, industrial development and digital innovation. The dialogue also underscored shared commitments to peace, stability and multilateral co-operation in addressing global challenges, including climate change, poverty and regional water management.

“The Pakistan–China friendship continues to be a pillar of regional stability and mutual progress — one of the most enduring and trusted partnerships in the world,” Rehman said.
