A 120-session Chinese language training program for personnel of Punjab’s Special Protection Unit (SPU) has started, marking a step forward in enhancing the operational capabilities of the province’s specialized security force.

Each session lasts three hours, bringing the total training to 360 hours of intensive instruction, according to a Gwadar Pro's report on Thursday.

The curriculum comprises 96 sessions of HSK Chinese language courses, plus 24 sessions covering cultural education modules including traditional festivals, calligraphy and Chinese characters, etiquette and tourist attractions.

The SPU is a specialized police unit under the Punjab Police tasked with providing security services and protection to foreign nationals across the province.

With international professionals, investors and workers engaged in various development projects throughout Punjab, the unit plays a critical role in maintaining a secure environment for all foreign residents and visitors.

The language training initiative addresses a practical operational need. Officers equipped with Chinese language skills can communicate with Mandarin-speaking individuals during patrols or emergency response, quickly assess situation and improve response efficiency.

Beyond practical communication, the cultural education component aims to help officers better understand the cultural backgrounds of the diverse communities they serve, fostering mutual respect and smoother cooperation.

The training is being delivered by the Lahore Chinese International Academy (LCIA), a well-established institution in Chinese language education in Pakistan. More than 20 SPU personnel have been enrolled in the current batch.

The program reflects the deepening collaboration between Pakistani law enforcement agencies and international partners in capacity building.
