Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm commitment to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), calling for dialogue, peace, and enhanced regional connectivity as key pillars for shared prosperity, according to a report carried by Gwadar Pro. Addressing the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO in Tianjin, the prime minister emphasized Pakistan’s consistent support for multilateralism and diplomacy, saying the Organization embodies Pakistan’s vision for regional cooperation and integration,
“Pakistan seeks normal and stable relations with neighbors, built on dialogue rather than confrontation,” he remarked.
On regional security, Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s unequivocal condemnation of terrorism in all forms, recalling the country’s unparalleled sacrifices of over 90,000 lives and economic losses exceeding $152 billion.
He said recent attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bore evidence of foreign involvement, while stressing that the global community must reject the politicization of terrorism. On Afghanistan, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s backing for a peaceful and stable neighbor, noting that trilateral cooperation with China would contribute to regional stability.
Shehbaz Sharif highlighted climate-induced disasters, citing Pakistan’s ongoing flood losses, while thanking China and the international community for their solidarity. Despite challenges, he said Pakistan was on the path of economic recovery, focusing on export-led growth, foreign investment in agriculture, IT, energy, and tax reforms.
Underscoring regional connectivity, he praised the Belt and Road Initiative and described the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a flagship project of SCO integration. He urged greater development of land, air, and rail corridors to strengthen supply chains.
