As part of the welfare measures initiated by Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, 225 ration bags were distributed among railway porters, sanitation workers and other Class IV employees in the Rawalpindi Division on Wednesday.
In a message issued on the occasion, the minister outlined his vision of strengthening the Pakistan Railways by prioritising the welfare of its workforce, particularly low-income employees, saying sustained support for labourers was vital for institutional stability and improved service delivery.
He said porters and Class IV employees formed the backbone of the organisation and that progress was not possible without ensuring their welfare. He said the Railways Ministry was taking practical steps to ease the economic pressures faced by its workers.
A railway spokesman said the ration bags were distributed under the supervision of the Divisional Superintendent (DS) Railways Rawalpindi. He added that the minister had directed the ration support programme to be continued on a regular, monthly basis to provide consistent relief to deserving staff.
The porters and Class IV employees welcomed the initiative and thanked the minister, saying the support had provided much-needed relief and strengthened their confidence that their issues were being taken seriously at the federal level.
