3,000 kg of rotten, unhygienic beef recovered in Bahawalpur Breaking

October 22, 2025

On the directives of Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Dr Farhan Farooq, a joint operation was carried out against the illegal sale of unhygienic meat.  The operation was conducted by a team comprising the Deputy Director of the Livestock Department Bahawalpur, the Superintendent of the Slaughterhouse, and officers from the Punjab food Authority (PFA).

The team raided a private slaughterhouse and adjoining butcher shop near Shikarpuri Gate in Inner City Bahawalpur, where approximately 3,000 kilograms of rotten and unhygienic beef was recovered.  According to the Punjab Food Authority, the seized meat was extremely hazardous to human health. Had the timely action not been taken, it could have been distributed throughout the city, posing a serious threat to public safety.

Those involved in the illegal activity were arrested on the spot and handed over to local police. Both the slaughterhouse and the butcher shop were sealed, and legal proceedings have been initiated under the Food Safety Act. Investigations are currently underway.
