506mm rain in Gujrat triggers urban floodingBreaking

September 04, 2025

A powerful monsoon spell has hit Gujrat on Wednesday as the city received a staggering 506 millimeters of rain in 24 hours, causing urban flooding.  The urban flooding has turned roads into streams and the rainwater has entered homes and shops, destroying valuables worth millions of rupees. Torrential rains also caused seasonal streams to overflow, submerging dozens of villages.  Shakargarh and Zafarwal also experienced heavy rainfall, leading to the flooding of low-lying areas.

In Abbottabad, heavy rains triggered a flash flood that washed away a bridge on the Lora River, cutting off access to multiple villages.  Meanwhile, heavy rainfall has been predicted across Punjab until September 5, raising the risk of worsening flood conditions. In Khanpur, the water level in the Khanpur Dam has exceeded the limit, and the spillways have been opened.
