8 killed, 1,460 injured in 1,274 road crashes across Punjab in 24 hoursتازترین

At least eight people were killed and 1,460 others injured in 1,274 road traffic crashes reported across Punjab during the last 24 hours, according to the Emergency Services Department (Rescue 1122).A Rescue Punjab spokesperson said 653 seriously injured victims were shifted to various hospitals, while 807 people with minor injuries were provided first aid at the scene by Rescue Medical Teams, helping reduce the burden on hospitals.

The spokesperson said motorbikes were involved in 79 per cent of the road crashes, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and lane discipline to reduce accidents. According to the data, the victims included 831 drivers, 56 underage drivers, 146 pedestrians and 491 passengers.Lahore recorded the highest number of road crashes with 248 incidents affecting 276 people, followed by Multan with 71 crashes and 81 victims, and Faisalabad with 70 crashes involving 78 victims.

The statistics showed that a total of 1,468 victims comprised 1,182 men and 286 women. Among them, 309 were below 18 years of age, 754 were between 18 and 40 years, while 405 were above 40 years of age. The accidents involved 1,369 motorcycles, 94 auto-rickshaws, 143 cars, 30 vans, 11 passenger buses, 31 trucks and 64 other vehicles and slow-moving carts, the spokesperson added.
