Acute water shortage sparks protest in Shopian Breaking

May 24, 2025

Residents of the Bongam locality in Shopian district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir staged a protest against the ongoing shortage of drinking water. According to Kashmir Media Service, scores of men, women, and children blocked the main road to draw the attention of the authorities towards the severe water crisis they have been facing for the past two weeks.

Carrying placards and shouting slogans, the protesters expressed deep anguish over the department’s failure to restore the potable water supply despite repeated appeals. “We have been without safe drinking water for over 15 days, and no official has come forward to resolve the issue,” said one protesting woman. “Our children are falling ill, and we are forced to fetch water from unsafe sources in this extreme heat.”
