August 15, 2025

Torrential rains continue to batter Azad Jammu and Kashmir, prompting the government to announce a two-day closure of schools. Flood-related incidents have left eight people dead and three injured, while six bridges and several roads have been destroyed. Power and telephone services have also been disrupted in upper areas.

An AJK government meeting chaired by the prime minister approved compensation for the victims. In the Neelum Valley, hundreds of tourists remain stranded at Ratti Gali and Patliyan. Authorities said the tourists are safe and rescue operations will begin today.
