The Punjab Education Department has directed all government and private schools in the province to ensure the implementation of essential security SOPs according to which all schools are bound to build security walls and install barbed wires. As per the new SOPs, the installation of panic buttons, metal detectors, CCTV cameras, web cameras, and the appointment of a security guard must be ensured without delay. Security staff must be deputed at all the entry points of the schools, and during school timings, every school will open only one gate.
Mock exercises with 1122, the civil defence department, must be conducted. All important numbers should be displayed in the principal offices and staff rooms. Earlier on December 3, 2025, Punjab Health Minister and Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order, Khawaja Salman Rafique, has directed the School Education Department to enforce boundary walls, guard training, and other essential security SOPs across educational institutions in the province.
The meeting included a detailed review of existing security arrangements, during which the Secretary of the School Education Department and other officials briefed the committee. Khawaja Salman Rafique said a comprehensive security audit of schools across Punjab is underway. He stressed that the installation of panic buttons in educational institutions must be ensured without delay. “Providing a peaceful and secure educational environment to students is the top priority of the government,” he added.
