Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi have said that the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) alliance with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is one of necessity rather than affection.Speaking at a joint press conference in Peshawar on Friday, Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider, accompanied by Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, advised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to improve its working relationship with the federal government.
Governor Saleem said that relations between the PPP and PML-N are good, and efforts are being made to improve coordination in Punjab. However, he noted that the PML-N had violated several clauses of the written agreement between the two parties. “Many of our concerns were addressed,” he said, “but several important commitments were not fulfilled.” He added that the Prime Minister has assured the PPP leadership that its reservations will be resolved, but no one can predict the future of the PML-N.
The Punjab governor further remarked that workers of both parties are still unwilling to fully accept one another. “Our alliance with the PML-N is not born of love; it is born of necessity,” he stated. He said that the PPP is trying to reactivate its presence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and expressed hope that matters would improve and the political system would continue to function smoothly. The Punjab governor again urged the provincial government to strengthen its working relationship with the federation.
Governor Saleem also said that the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should be allowed to meet the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), adding, “If such a meeting takes place, it will not bring any calamity.” He reiterated that the PPP has never supported undemocratic actions and remains committed to the democratic process.
