A 4.5 magnitude earthquake again jolted Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and some Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cities on Saturday at 9.27 am. Tremors were also felt in Haripur, Khanpur, and Swabi areas of KP. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the earthquake measured 4.5 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was recorded near the northern region, and it lasted for a few seconds. Many residents reported feeling their homes and offices shake.
Some people rushed outdoors as a precaution, while local authorities confirmed that there were no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage. Seismologists explained that such moderate earthquakes are common in northern Pakistan due to the movement of tectonic plates in the Himalayan region. They also advised people to remain calm and follow safety measures.
Earlier, a 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck parts of northern Pakistan on Friday, with tremors felt in the federal capital and several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials said. As per the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the quake measured 5.6 on the Richter scale. Its depth was recorded at 73 kilometres, with the epicentre located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.
Tremors were reported in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, as well as across multiple areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Swat, Mardan, and surrounding localities, Lower Dir, Malakand, Chitral, Khyber, Bara, Jamrud, Landi Kotal, and Tirah. Residents in several cities rushed out of homes and office buildings in fear, reciting prayers as the tremors subsided. Authorities said no immediate reports of casualties or property damage had been received. Relevant departments are assessing the situation.
