January 14, 2026

Several motorways and major highways across Punjab remained closed to traffic on Wednesday amid dense fog, which has severely reduced visibility in many areas.According to a spokesperson for the Motorway Police Central Region, traffic flow has been suspended at various sections of the motorways as a precautionary measure to protect lives and property.

The M-2 motorway from Lahore to Kot Momin has been closed due to severe fog. Similarly, the M-3 motorway from Faizpur to Darkhana, the M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Multan, and the M-5 from Multan to Zahir Pir have also been closed to traffic. In addition, the M-11 motorway from Lahore to Sambrial and the Lahore Eastern Bypass have been shut because of poor visibility.

The Motorway Police reported dense fog on the National Highway in Lahore, Manga Mandi, Pattoki, Okara, Sahiwal, Kassowal, and Iqbal Nagar. Extremely low visibility also recorded in Mian Channu, Khanewal, Multan, Lodhran, and Bahawalpur, with visibility in some areas reduced to between zero and 100 meters, posing serious safety risks. The spokesperson warned that lane violations and speeding during foggy conditions can lead to fatal accidents.

Commutators have been advised to strictly follow lane discipline, avoid unnecessary travel, and prefer daytime journeys. He added that safe travel hours during fog are from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Drivers are urged to use fog lights, maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, and keep speeds low. For assistance or guidance, citizens can contact the Motorway Police helpline at 130.
