Dr Kabeer Sidhu appointed SECP chairmanBreaking

Dr Kabeer Ahmad Sidhu, who is presently serving as the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) chairman, was on Saturday appointed as the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) chairman. Dr Sidhu has over 20-year legal and regulatory experience in Pakistan and the UK. He received his PhD degree from the University of Manchester and is an experienced banker.

Dr Sidhu has done his doctorate on stock exchanges regulations and investors. He also served in insurance companies, law firms and financial institutions during his stay in the UK. Dr Sidhu also served as senior legal consultant in the Federal Law Ministry and Privatisation Commission. During his stay at CCP, there was a 70 percent drop in the legal backlog.

Within two years, courts and tribunals had decided 434 out of 567 cases. He was also responsible for recovering Rs1.36 billion in fines. He had also slapped over Rs1 billion new fine on cartels and misleading marketing. Dr Sidhu’s ruling on merger of PTCL and Telenor was internationally recognized.
