Professor Dr Tanveer-ul-Khaliq, Vice Chancellor of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU), has been assigned additional charge of Executive Director (ED) of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), marking a change in the leadership of the federal capital’s major public-sector hospital. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of National Health Services, Dr Tanveer-ul-Khaliq has been given the additional charge of PIMS Executive Director, while the outgoing ED Dr Muhammad Salman has been repatriated to his parent organization, the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Dr Tanveer-ul-Khaliq has previously been associated with PIMS for a considerable period and served in its Department of Surgery. His familiarity with the hospital’s clinical and administrative systems is expected to help address operational and management-related matters. The development comes as part of efforts to strengthen the administrative functioning and service delivery at PIMS, one of the country’s major tertiary-care public hospitals. Dr Tanveer-ul-Khaliq will continue to perform his responsibilities as Vice Chancellor of SZABMU while holding the additional charge of PIMS Executive Director.
