The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has predicted that Eid-ul-Adha 2025 is likely to be celebrated across Pakistan on Saturday, June 7, based on astronomical calculations. According to SUPARCO, the birth of the new moon for the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah will occur on May 27, 2025, at 08:02 am (Pakistan Standard Time).
By sunset the same day, SUPARCO said the moon’s age will be only 11 hours and 34 minutes — too young to be seen with the naked eye or even a telescope under normal weather conditions in Pakistan. As per SUPARCO’s forecast, the moon is unlikely to be sighted anywhere in Pakistan on May 27, making May 29 the probable date for 1st Dhul-Hijjah. Consequently, Eid-ul-Adha is expected to fall on June 7, 2025.
Renowned astronomer Dr Faheem Hashmi has supported this assessment, stating that moon visibility on May 27 is virtually impossible but highly likely on May 28, when its age surpasses 35 hours, making it easily observable across the country. In contrast, moon sighting in Saudi Arabia on May 27 might be possible through telescopes, potentially setting Hajj for June 5 and Eid on June 6 there. It is important to note that the final announcement regarding the sighting of the moon in Pakistan will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, based on eyewitness testimonies.
