In UP, an elderly Muslim man was assaulted and humiliated in Ghaziabad’s Sihani area for carrying chicken during the Hindu month of Sawan, a video of the incident circulating on social media shows.According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident took place on August 7. The man had reportedly travelled from Delhi’s Ghazipur market with chicken when members of Hindu Raksha Dal stopped him and objected to him carrying meat during Sawan.

In the viral footage, several men can be seen pushing and hitting the elderly man while his belongings are thrown away. Hindu Raksha Dal member Prince Thakur has been named in allegations linked to the assault.The incident has drawn criticism over vigilante enforcement of religious practices, with users questioning why private groups should have the right to stop or attack citizens over food choices.

Police officials said the man’s motorcycle was issued a traffic challan and he was later released. They added that no written complaint had been received from either side, but they were examining the video.The case has renewed concerns over private groups taking the law into their own hands and the treatment of minority community members. Prince Thakur was earlier arrested in February 2026 after a video allegedly showed him damaging an old mazar near the Hindon River.
