Experts warn of rising respiratory issues amid smog and dust allergiesBreaking

Medical expert Thursday expressed serious concern over the increasing number of breathing problems caused by smog and dust allergies, urging the public to raised awarness for taking timely precautionary measures to protect their health.

While talking to a local news channel on Thursday, Dr. Muhammad Waqas Khan, Emergency medical officer JPMC expressed deep concern over the rising number of breathing problems reported across the city, adding, the recent increase in smog and dust pollution has triggered a surge in respiratory issues, particularly among children the elderly, and those with pre-existing lung conditions.

Dr. Khan explained that pollutants in the air, including fine particulate matter, enter the respiratory tract and cause inflammation, leading to coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and allergic reactions. He added that prolonged exposure to poor air quality could aggravate chronic conditions such as asthma and bronchitis, posing serious health risks if preventive steps are not taken.

He urged citizens to take precautionary measures such as wearing face masks, avoiding outdoor activities during high pollution hours and keeping windows closed to minimize exposure, adding, increasing indoor ventilation with air purifiers and staying hydrated to ease respiratory discomfort. He said that collective efforts from both authorities and citizens are essential to curb the growing threat of smog-related health problems.
