Security forces conducted two intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing five suspected terrorists linked to the banned outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) - also referred to as Fitna al Khwarij - the military’s media wing said on Monday. According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations were carried out on June 15 and 16 in Peshawar and North Waziristan districts following credible intelligence regarding the presence of militants allegedly backed by Indian interests.
The first operation was conducted in Peshawar district, where security personnel reportedly surrounded the hideout of the suspected militants and engaged them in a fierce gun battle. Four militants, identified by the ISPR as Haris and Baseer among others, were killed in the exchange of fire. In a separate operation in North Waziristan, another terrorist was killed during a brief gunfight, the statement added.
The ISPR said that weapons, ammunition, and explosives were recovered from the terrorists, who were allegedly involved in several terrorist activities across the region. “Sanitisation operations are currently underway in the surrounding areas to eliminate any remaining threats,” the ISPR noted, reaffirming that Pakistan’s security forces remain committed to eradicating terrorism in all its forms. No injuries to security personnel were reported during the operations.
