The agricultural economy in Punjab has suffered a severe blow due to the recent unprecedented floods in the province. The floods have destroyed standing rice, maize and other crops besides vegetables in Punjab. According to sources, at least 2,125,838 acres of agricultural land was affected by the devastating floods across Punjab.
As per the details, cotton crops on 110,850 acres of land were washed away while rice crops on 970,929 acres of land went underwater. Maize crops on 186,419 acres of land were also destroyed. Moreover, sugarcane crops cultivated on 220,344 acres of land were ruined. Floods also damaged green fodder on 400,500 acres of land while vegetables cultivated on 115,260 acres of land were also destroyed.
