Fresh crackdown by Indian police in Sopore aims to crush Hurriyat resistanceBreaking

December 12, 2025

Once again, the Indian police have raided the homes of Hurriyat leaders in Sopore, showing their true face as agents of state-sponsored repression where this latest crackdown is just another example of how the people of Jammu and Kashmir are constantly subjected to intimidation and harassment in their fight for justice.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian police conducted raids and searches at the residences of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and Muslim League members, including Zaffar islam, Lateef Ahmad Kaloo, Mohammad Ashraf Malik, and Farooq Tawheedi, in several areas of Sopore.  These coordinated operations aimed to intimidate and silence key figures associated with the resistance movement.

The raids were carried out under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), a controversial law frequently used by the authorities to suppress dissent and target activists.  The use of UAPA in this instance further highlights the ongoing repression and the Indian state’s relentless efforts to crush any opposition to its illegal control over Jammu and Kashmir.

The draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) effectively grants impunity to Indian forces, enabling them to carry out human rights violations and atrocities in the occupied territory without fear of accountability.  This law has become a tool for systematic oppression, allowing the authorities to target political activists and dissenting voices under the pretext of maintaining “law and order.”

The citizens of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have strongly condemned these raids and search operations, denouncing them as acts of intimidation and state-sponsored terror.  They have demanded an immediate halt to such repressive measures, the repeal of draconian laws like UAPA, and the protection of basic human rights and freedoms in the region.
