Health concerns, legal battles for PTI founder Imran KhanBreaking

August 11, 2025

A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Patron-in-Chief and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, alongside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, requesting a medical examination for the 72-year-old leader. The petition, citing concerns over Khan’s significant weight loss during his imprisonment, highlights fears that he may be suffering from various health issues.

The petition names the Punjab government, Inspector General of Prisons, Jail Hospital, and Shaukat Khanum Hospital as respondents. It emphasizes that Khan’s complete medical history is available at Shaukat Khanum Hospital and urges the court to allow the hospital’s medical team to conduct monthly examinations to monitor his health.  In a separate development, the Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for August 12, 2025, to address bail appeals filed by Khan in eight cases related to the May 9 incidents.

A three-member bench, led by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and including Justices Shafi Siddiqui and Gul Hassan Aurangzeb, will hear the appeals. The Registrar Office of the Supreme Court has issued a cause list and notified Khan’s legal team accordingly. Meanwhile, the hearing of the Tosha Khana II case involving Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, has been postponed.

Originally scheduled to take place in Adiala Jail before the Special Judge Central Islamabad, the court deferred the hearing. Imran Khan’s lawyer, Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry, was informed by court staff that a new date for the case will be announced at the Judicial Complex in Islamabad. As legal proceedings and health concerns continue to unfold, all eyes remain on the developments surrounding the PTI founder’s situation.
