An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad has awarded heavy jail sentences to convicts including a PTI lawmaker involved in May 9 attack on Ramna police station in the federal capital.All the convicts were handed the prison terms up to 15 years.Pronouncing the verdict on Friday, ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra said “You all were charged with attacking the police station and 20 witnesses including magistrates recorded their statements in the case.” “There is always a peaceful way to register your protest,” the judge remarked.
All the convicts were awarded five-year jail for attempting to kill the policemen, 10-year prison term plus Rs50,000 fine to all convicts under anti-terrorism provisions, four-year jail for setting a motorcycle on fire, three-year prison term for stopping police from performing their duty, one-month jail under Section 144 and one-year prison term for committing crime by forming a jatha (group). The court also awarded 10-year jail term to PTI MNA Abdul Latif.
