A meeting of the high-level committee constituted on the directives of the Chief Minister Sindh was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Local Government, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah. The meeting was attended by Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Hussain Naqvi, Additional Chief Secretary Local Government Department Waseem Shamshad, Chairman Chief Minister’s Inspection Team Bilal Ahmed Memon, a representative of the Planning and Development Department, along with senior officers of relevant departments.
During the meeting, a detailed and comprehensive review was conducted of the ongoing and proposed development projects and schemes of KMC under the Karachi Infrastructure Development Policy. The pace, quality, transparency, and public utility of the ongoing development works in the city were also thoroughly discussed. It was decided in the meeting that the high-level committee would directly monitor KMC’s development projects.
Clear priorities would be set for the projects, and a detailed progress report would be submitted to the Chief Minister Sindh on a monthly basis. Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah categorically stated that all development projects would be completed within the prescribed time, and schemes would be taken to completion on an end-to-end basis, as incomplete and delayed projects lead to increased public inconvenience and cost overruns, which are unacceptable under any circumstances.
To ensure effective coordination in planning and implementation, it was decided to include a representative of the Planning and Development Department in the committee. The meeting also held detailed discussions on beautification projects of various important roads and arteries of the city, and it was decided to give priority to roads facing heavy traffic congestion.
