A massive fire which suddenly broke out on a mountain of Sobra City Hill Club, located near Tarbela Dam in Haripur, has threatened to impact the heavy transmission line of the National Grid, raising alarms that the blaze may affect the electricity supply. The reason behind the fire could not be ascertained yet. The fire suddenly erupted on the mountain and started to spread towards the heavy transmission line.
Residents of the area appealed to the relevant departments to take immediate notice of this situation to avoid any huge loss. The local authorities appealed to the general public to avoid going near the affected site unnecessarily. Earlier in 2025, a sizable area of scrub forest was burnt when a fire broke out in the hilly range of Tarbela Dam.
Police and locals said the fire erupted from a small portion of the hilly area, mostly covered under scrub, and spread to several kanals due to heavy winds. The fire destroyed small shrubs and the grassy area of the hilly range overlooking Tarbela Golf Club and Garhi Maira village, police and area people told reporters.
The villagers informed the police and rescue authorities but due to the mountainous area, fire engines could not be moved there, forcing the residents of the surrounding villages to fight the fire applying indigenous methods. The villagers used the fire-beaters made of tree branches and managed to control the fast-spreading blaze beneath the high transmission power lines, putting it out after an effort of three hours.
