Illegal mountain cutting banned under Section 144 Breaking

January 02, 2026

Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad, Sarmad Saleem Akram on Friday imposed a complete ban under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code on illegal cutting of mountains, excavation, and the extraction of soil, stones, and rocks across the district.

According to the notification, the ban has been enforced in view of the serious environmental damage caused by unchecked mountain cutting. The deputy commissioner said such activities increase the risks of landslides, soil erosion, disruption of natural drainage systems, and pose serious threats to life and property, particularly during the monsoon season.

He added that these practices are against public interest and government policies. The notification strictly prohibits unauthorized excavation of mountains, use of heavy machinery, and the transportation and disposal of extracted soil and stones. In case of violations, legal action will be taken under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The ban has come into immediate effect and will remain in force for a period of two months. The deputy commissioner has urged the public to cooperate with the district administration in the enforcement of the ban and to promptly report any illegal activities to the relevant authorities to ensure environmental protection and the safety of life and property.
